Even before boarding the plane, the Poor Traveler and his friends were already excited to explore Bohol. When we landed at Tagbilaran Airport, we were pleased that the driver from Bagobo Beach Resort was already there to pick us up.

Straight from Tagbilaran Airport, our first stop was the Sandugo Site. For my non-Pinoy readers, “sandugo” literally means “one blood.” In history, Sandugo is known as the blood compact between the chieftain of Bohol Datu Sikatuna and Spanish explorer Miguel López de Legazpi. It was performed on March 16, 1565 to mark their friendship. This was considered the first friendship treaty between the Filipinos and Spaniards. Sandugo was said to be a tradition in the island.

We were the only people when we arrived at the historic site. My initial reaction was, “Wow, winner ang view.” I could imagine performing a blood compact against the scenic backdrop. From the site you could see the beaches of Bohol and its crystal blue waters.

A few minutes later we were greeted by two buses of tourists so we were not able to have our camwhoring moment with the monument.
