Visiting a new and exotic locale is always greatly enhanced when the traveler captures plenty of memories with his or her camera. When it comes time to print out the pictures, some results turn out better than others. The keys to good quality travel picture printing involve some planning as well as selecting a good portable printer such as one from the hp officejet series. These small and compact printers are convenient to pack and easy to connect to a laptop while on the go, eliminating the need to wait until the trip is over to have any prints made. Better printing results begin with the optimal image settings, printer calibration, and taking along the correct photo-grade paper.
When taking an hp officejet series mobile printer on a long trip, be sure to pack at least one extra set of ink cartridges in case the first one runs out. When packing ink cartridges for airplane travel, it is a good idea to remove them from the printer and pack them in a heavy plastic bag. This will prevent messy ink spilling or leaking. Also check that printer’s driver is up-to-date; this will ensure the best possible communication between the printer and computer hardware. Pack the photo paper in a sturdy, water-proof container as well. When selecting photo paper sizes, many travelers find the 4×6 inch or 5×7 inch sizes the simplest to transport.
Once a set of travel pictures is ready to print, check the printer’s dots-per-inch (dpi) setting in the printing preferences dialog box under the computer’s control panel. hp officejet series printers should be set with the highest dpi setting allowed, which is usually 600 by 600 dpi. Also make sure that the correct type paper is selected under these preferences. Running the print cartridge cleaning function before leaving on a trip will prevent the likelihood of a cartridge blocking during a vacation. While many travel photographers like to save their images as JPEG files, this is not the best for printing. Saving travel pictures as TIFF files does a great deal in terms of improving print quality.
