MANILA TO WESTERN VISAYAS by BUS: Operational Bus Companies and Routes to Iloilo, Aklan & Capiz

2020 • 11 • 28

Although many local governments have lifted travel restrictions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, general protocols and requirements to ensure the health and safety of the public are still in place. Public transportation is still regulated, including provincial buses. Many public utility vehicles like jeepneys are already allowed to operate, but provincial buses traveling to and from Manila are still limited.

But just in time for the holiday, the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) has opened seven (7) routes to Region VI (Western Visayas) and back. As of November 18, 221 provincial buses started plying these routes.

Note that for provincial buses bound for the Western Visayas region (and the rest of Visayas and Mindanao), passengers from Metro Manila are currently being served by the Santa Rosa Integrated Terminal (SRIT) in Laguna. This means that if you’re coming from any part of Manila, you need to find a way to get to Santa Rosa first.

Important Reminders

The LTFRB also have some reminders for the passengers. These “7 commandments” are implemented in all public transportation based on the recommendation of health experts:

  1. Always wear a mask and a face shield.
  2. Talking and speaking on the phone is not allowed.
  3. Eating is prohibited.
  4. Proper ventilation in PUVs must be maintained.
  5. Disinfection should be done regularly.
  6. Passengers with symptoms of COVID-19 are not allowed to ride public transportation.
  7. Proper physical distancing or the “one-seat apart” rule must always be observed.

There is no increase in fares on provincial buses unless mandated or announced by the LTFRB.
