One of the most famous family-friendly tourist attractions in Tagaytay is the sprawling Tagaytay Picnic Grove. For those who prefer bringing their own food instead of dining at restaurants, this scenic destination offers the perfect setting to bond with family or friends while enjoying the sweeping views of Taal Lake and the lush, forested Tagaytay ridge.
My family has visited this place several times over the years, and for the longest time, we noticed very little development. That shifted during our team’s last visit, when we checked out what had changed. We saw significant upgrades, including relatively new buildings and structures. Of course, some areas still need renovation or remain inaccessible to the public for safety reasons, mainly due to compromised structural integrity.
More than the structures, however, it is still the breathtaking view of Taal Lake that continues to draw tourists to this classic picnic destination near Manila. Aside from the picnic spots, there are also other activities that can keep visitors of all ages entertained. So, if you are planning to visit here soon, here are some of the things you need to know before you go.

- The rate only covers the entrance fee. Other amenities like the picnic tables, huts, pavilions, zipline, Ferris wheel, and parking fee will incur additional fees.
When is the best time to go?
Since most of the attractions and activities here are held outdoors, it’s best to check the weather forecast first before you visit. A clear, sunny day is ideal for enjoying both the views and the outdoor activities with your loved ones. Don’t forget to bring sun protection, such as hats, caps, shades, and sunscreen, especially when the sun gets too intense.
As for foot traffic, weekdays have fewer crowds. Weekends and holidays are expectedly more crowded than weekdays. But if those are the only dates available for your trip, then be there early in the morning to secure your preferred picnic spot instead of settling for whatever is left. The good spots are usually taken by the time latecomers arrive.
How to get to Tagaytay Picnic Grove?
Tagaytay Picnic Grove is located along Tagaytay-Calamba Road in Barangay Sungay South in Tagaytay City, Cavite. Whether traveling by private car or taking public transportation, the way to the picnic grove complex is fairly easy.
- Public Transportation. From Manila, take a bus bound for Tagaytay or Nasugbu at Parañaque Integrated Terminal Exchange (PITX) or Pasay. Get off at Olivarez New Terminal. The fare is P100-120. You can either take a jeepney or a tricycle to Tagaytay Picnic Grove. If taking the jeepney, get on the one bound for People’s Park in the Sky and just tell the driver that you are going to Picnic Grove. The fare is P25-30. If you want to take a tricycle or bukyo, the fare is around P100 for up to three people.
- Private Car. From SLEX or CAVITEX, continue driving until you reach Tagaytay-Calamba Road. From Tagaytay-Calamba Road, keep driving until you see the entrance gate of Tagaytay Picnic Grove. Your landmark is the towering Ferris Wheel at the entrance gate area. Activate Waze or Google Maps to get the real-time direction and traffic situation.
Is there a designated parking area?
Yes! In the past, although there was a designated parking area, finding an available slot during weekends and holidays was really a challenge. Some of the roads within the property even had vehicles parked on either side. However, during our last visit, we parked at a relatively new multi-level parking area that provides more parking spaces for visitors.
We visited on a Saturday, and there were still plenty of available slots. That said, some visitors still chose to park their cars near their chosen picnic spots. There’s also a dedicated area for motorcycle parking.

- Park your vehicle. If you are bringing your own car, look for an available parking spot first.
- Payment. You may settle your payment either right after parking or after enjoying your picnic and other activities within the Picnic Grove complex. This is also where you pay the rental fees for picnic tables, huts, or pavilions. There are also staff members roaming around the area to check receipts for paid rentals. If you haven’t paid yet, you settle the payment with them, but don’t forget to ask for an official receipt.
- Enjoy your time with your loved ones at Tagaytay Picnic Grove!
What are the picnic rental rates?
The picnic tables, huts, sheds, and pavilions are not concentrated in just one particular area. Instead, they are scattered throughout the entire complex. The huts and sheds that offer views of Taal Lake are mostly located near the New Viewdeck building. Meanwhile, the picnic tables can be found close to the entrance, exit, payment, and parking areas. The pavilions, on the other hand, are tucked near the Eco-Adventure Trail and the Old Viewdeck.
Tagaytay Picnic Grove Rental Rates
- Tables: P150 (Good for 8 pax)
- Picnic Huts: P250 (Good for 8 pax)
- Family Sheds: P400 (Good for 16 pax)
- Pavilion: P600 (Good for up to 25 pax)
- Viewdeck: P2500 – P2700
Where is the best spot?
Of course, the huts or gazebos perched along the hillside, overlooking the Taal Lake and the forested Taal ridge, are the most sought-after spots. But then again, it ultimately depends on your preference. If you like being surrounded by trees and prefer a more forest-like atmosphere, one of the pavilions near the Old Viewdeck building would suit you best. If you are just stopping by Picnic Grove for lunch and do not plan to stay long, the picnic tables may be the more practical choice.
My family once had a picnic in one of the gazebos/huts with a view of the Taal Lake after arriving early in the morning. On another visit, we had to settle for one of the picnic tables near the parking area because we arrived around lunchtime. Again, if you want to secure your preferred spot, be there early while there are still plenty of options available.
What are the other attractions and activities?
- New Viewdeck and The Views. There are several viewing spots within the property, but the prime area to get a panoramic view of Taal Lake and Taal Volcano is the New Viewdeck building. You can reach it through the newly constructed Sky Walk or by taking the stairs coming from the picnic area.
- Sky Walk. This is another wonderful addition to the property. Have a leisurely stroll with your companions and take lots of photos. The entrance is located near the building that houses restaurants and eateries. From there, the Sky Walk leads to the New Viewdeck building overlooking the picnic area and Taal Lake.
- Sky Rider (Zipline). Designed, installed, and tested by Towertech, the zipline adheres to international safety standards. Note that there are physical and weight restrictions, so not everyone may qualify to try this. Make sure to follow all safety guidelines. You are not allowed to bring your action camera, selfie stick, DSLR camera, and mobile phone while ziplining.
Fee: Weekdays, P300/2-Way Ride; Weekends, P400/2-Way Ride. For a 1-Way Ride, the fee is P100 less.
- Kite Flying. The wide open green space in the Picnic Town zone is a great place for flying kites. You can either rent one on-site or bring your own.
- Horseback Riding. Picnic Grove also features a horseback riding circuit where kids and adults alike can experience riding a horse. Don’t worry if you have no idea how to ride a horse because horse handlers are there to guide you and the horse.
Fee: P350/30 mins
- Souvenir Shops. Numerous souvenir shops can be found throughout the complex, especially near the entrance, parking area, and Picnic Town. These shops sell clothes, hats, key chains, ref magnets, accessories, and other keepsakes.
- Picnic Town. This serves as the main activity zone, much like a town center where most of the attractions are found, including the Sky Rider, New Viewdeck, Sky Walk, kite flying area, picnic spots with views of Taal Lake, and several souvenir shops.
- Eco-Adventure Trail. This forested trail stretches for about 500 meters and features a suspension bridge. This is perfect for those who enjoy nature tripping and a relaxing mini-trek.
- Ferris Wheel. One of the most recognizable structures in Picnic Grove is the Ferris wheel near the front of the property. However, there are times when it is not operational, possibly due to regular maintenance.
Fee: P150/person
Where to eat inside Tagaytay Picnic Grove?
Well, the entire Picnic Grove complex essentially serves as one huge dining place. Just bring your own food and rent a picnic spot — whether it’s a table, hut, pavilion, or whatever setup best suits your needs. If you need additional snacks, chips, and drinks, there are also food stalls within the premises.
If you happen to visit spontaneously without bringing food, you can dine at one of the on-site eateries or restaurants. As previously mentioned, the building near the entrance to the Sky Walk also hosts some food establishments.
Is Tagaytay Picnic Grove worth it?
For those looking for a budget-friendly weekend getaway with family, friends, or a partner, Tagaytay Picnic Grove is still worth visiting. The management chose to use the pandemic downtime productively by upgrading and improving some facilities and amenities while operations were temporarily suspended.
Among the notable improvements and additions post-pandemic are the multi-level parking building, the new Viewdeck, the upgraded zip line facility, the enhanced main area, now called Picnic Town, the Sky Walk, and the building housing restaurants. Even the signs and posters around the property are now bigger and more visible.
Of course, there is still room for improvement. For instance, while the signs are much more noticeable, the property is quite large, so additional directional signs would make navigation easier for visitors. Staff stationed at the entrance should also provide clearer instructions on where visitors need to pay entrance fees and other charges. Some of the picnic tables and huts could use repairs and maintenance as well.
